We are committed to taking care of your environment both now and in the future.

Our customers have told us that they want us to supply electricity from renewable sources, so we have worked hard to make sure that we can.
We are making long term commitments and have formed a Green Electricity Development Group with the World Wide Fund for Nature and Dr. David Elliott of the Open University, who have been advising us on how to develop our green electricity.
In recent years, much has been done to reduce emissions from power stations. However, burning fossil fuels like coal releases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. This is contributing to global warming and climate change. There is a recognised need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using more environmentally friendly sources of energy.

We have negotiated separate long-term agreements to buy electricity from renewable sources in Yorkshire.
As a result, we are delighted to announce that our customers can now contribute towards green electricity*. By choosing green electricity, you will be directly supporting green generation stations which produce energy from renewable sources such as wind and agricultural and forestry waste. As green electricity can't be channeled to individual homes, switching to green electricity simply means that for every unit of electricity you use, we guarantee that we will buy a unit of electricity from a renewable source.
*Green electricity is subject to availability.

As well as green electricity, we are also involved in a number of other environmental projects.
We run an ongoing energy efficiency programme in our region and support projects which help communities to conserve and improve their local environment.
We were also joint partners in the construction of wind farms at Ovenden and Royd Moor.
As a company, we have taken measures to become more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. We now use recycled paper for our envelopes and have reduced the amount of paper we use for billing. We have also reduced the amount of fuel we use for transport and we recycle nearly all the oil we use in transformers and switchgear. You may also be interested to know that our headquarters at Scarcroft, in Leeds are now supplied with green electricity.

We are now pleased to announce that our green electricity tariff has been endorsed by the Energy Saving Trust. Infact we were one of the first renewable energy suppliers to receive this accreditation. Future Energy will accredit electricity tariffs which support or invest in electricity form the full range of recognised renewable energy sources. The checking process is carried out by an independent Government-backed organisation, the Energy Saving Trust.

You will receive your starter pack within 28 days of signing up for green electricity.
We have put this pack together to help you save money by improving your energy efficiency. Potentially, this saving can help to cover the additional cost of green electricity.
In return for choosing green electricity, we'll provide you with:
 * A free energy efficient lightbulb which can save you around £10 per year (approximately 4% of the average electricity bill!).
 * An energy efficiency leaflet giving you advice on how to be more energy efficient and save you money in your home.

Each week more and more people are switching to green electricity - And it's so easy. You are simply switching to a different tariff so there is no disruption to your service.

 Additional Cost (approx. £25/yr)
Green electricity is currently only generated in small quantities, which makes it slightly more expensive to produce. However, you may find that you will not actually pay any more for green electricity than you are currently paying for your electricity.
Our electricity prices vary for each region of the country. This is because we are charged different amounts by each regional electricity company to supply electricity in their area. Generally, the cost is approx. 8% more than our normal unit charge.
We promise that we will not make a profit from the extra you pay for our green electricity and we have arranged for external auditors to separately audit our green electricity accounts.
